Seems a lot of people use environmentalism as an excuse to oppose all new technology, while taking for granted the conveniences they were born with — with no thought to whether the new, unfamiliar technology may be more sustainable than the 50-year-old technology.

 Am Dm F G Am
Two robed wo men con verse d in the night,
 F C D E
One cloaked in vel vet, the o ther, in light.
 Am F G Am
One  was a  priest ess of  high  re pute;
     Am D F G Am
The oth er, a god dess, be yond dis pute.

“Look,” said the priestess, “the world’s a wreck.
It’s all the fault of this damn high tech.”
“The fault, my child, lies not in your toys.
The way you abuse them is what destroys.”

Chorus: Am Dm G Am
“The moon is al so a s ate llite.
        C D E
Na ture is chem istry, too.
               Am G E
And locked in ev ery gene,
           F G E
A fi nite- state ma chine.
         Am G Em Am
Not all your know ledge is new.”

The priestess said, “Be that as it may,
We’re surely meant for the natural way.
There’s too much knowledge in human hands.
It’s surely that which destroys your lands.”

The goddess said, “It was flint and sails
That burned the forests and butchered the whales.
It’s humans’ ignorance of their host,
And not their knowledge, that I fear most.”

“Look, you’re all big kids now; it falls to you.
You know the damage that you can do.
Apply your knowledge the way you should.
Responsibly used, it could do much good.”

&ldquoBut,” said the priestess, “you can’t condone
New-fangled arts that are not your own.
The profane creations to which they’ve led...”
“You’re missing the point, dear,” the goddess said.

(Chorus)

“Well, I’m cutting out,” the priestess said,
“And I’ll fight ‘til the last of high tech is dead.
It’s all to blame for the way things are.”
And she slammed the door of her ancient car. *

(On Tapeworm 3 it was “beat-up car”, but after it was recorded I decided
that “ancient” really made the point much better. Sorry for the confusion
if you’re trying to do this as a sing-along.)

She then roared off from that secret place,
Blowing exhaust in the Lady’s face.
The goddess coughed, and then shook her head.
“We have this debate every month,” she said.

(Chorus)
